attempt on ex-President Donald Trump,
as stated by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro on Sunday.
Comperatore was among the many individuals present at the rally in Butler,
Pennsylvania, as part of Trump's 2024 reelection campaign.
He tragically lost his life while attempting to shield his family, as reported by the governor.
The perpetrator of Saturday's attack has been identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks,
a 20-year-old who was fatally shot by Secret Service agents at the scene.
The FBI is currently conducting an investigation into the incident as a potential assassination attempt.
On Sunday, Shapiro reported that he had recently communicated with Corey's wife and his two daughters.
Corey was a devoted father to his daughters. Corey served as a firefighter in his community.
Corey made it a point to attend church every Sunday. Corey had a deep love for his community.
Above all, Corey cherished his family.
Shapiro mentioned that he sought permission from Corey's wife to disclose their conversation,
which she agreed. Additionally, she requested that he inform everyone about
Corey's heroic act of sacrificing himself to shield his family during the rally.
Shapiro has ordered that flags be flown at half-mast in memory of Comperatore.
